Projekter

Baltic Challenges and Chances for local and regional development generated by Climate Change (In Short: BalticClimate) was an Interreg IV B Project. Leadpartner of the project was the Academy of Spatial Research and State Planning (Akademie für Raumforschung und Landesplanung, Short: ARL). Climate Change changes the environmental conditions under which institutions and enterprises operate. The project therefor aimed at supporting decision makers, spatial planners and enterprises with coping with and adapting to the changes introduced by climate change.

Promoting Spatial Development by Creating COMmon MINdscapes (Kurz: COMMIN) was an Interreg III B Project working toward improving the mutual understanding of planning processes in the baltic sea region. To that end information channels and transnational communication was fostered, aided by the multidisciplinary composition of the project group comprising administrations, ministries, research institutes and businesses. The partners came from 11 countries along the baltic sea region, namely Belarus, Finnland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Denmark, Sweden and Germany.

Demographic change and limited public finances endanger the accessibility of services, goods and social life in remote and rural areas of the Baltic Sea Region (BSR), contributing to an ongoing process ofperipheralisation. In this context it becomes increasingly difficult for regional and local authorities to ensure individual "people-to-service" mobility (i.e. enabling inhabitants to reach services and public goods) as publictransport options are thinned out and services are concentrated in urban centres which are difficult to reach for villagers.
